Gaung / Reverb / Reverberação

Gaung/Reverb/Reverberação is an artwork installation created as a result of the research process and conversations developed for the Toko Buku Liong project during 2019-2020. Each element in the work reflects and echoes an enmeshment of facts, situations, identities, and memories of Toko Buku Liong founders – the Indonesian grandparents of Daniel Lie.

All the presenting works are placed and connected through a path of rice skin on the floor of the gallery. From burning candles in ceramic plates; a sculpture made with incense sticks that resembles the remains of the ruins of the bookstore; a painting made from images of the novel Wiro Anak Rimba Indonesia; a central pillar of the gallery covered in jute fabric and wrapped in natural fiber ropes works as a center, and from it three sculptures are hanging and wood trunks are emerging from the ground. A ghostly sculpture made with chickens feathers duster and a 30 years old mask of Petruk; an Indonesian dagger (keris) wrapped in cotton fabric and connected to a beehive; a three legged wooden figures with the face of a new Petruk Mask standing over three ceramics pots that contain rose water – in front of it all, a plate with burning incense.

The installation was thought for the dark, the lighting of the work comes from below and from the 12 candles that are spreaded.

As the path of the migration from Indonesia to Brazil influenced/impacted in many layers the subjectivities of the descendents of Lie and Ong. The work is an aesthetics proposition in a non-verbal form that navigates these feelings.

Gaung/Reverb/Reverberação adalah karya seni instalasi yang dibuat sebagai hasil dari proses penelitian dan percakapan yang dikembangkan untuk proyek Toko Buku Liong selama 2019-2020. Setiap elemen dalam karya merefleksikan dan menggaungkan keterikatan fakta, situasi, identitas, dan ingatan para pendiri Toko Buku Liong – kakek-nenek Daniel Lie dari Indonesia.

Seluruh karya yang dipresentasikan, diletakkan dan terhubung melalui jalur dari kulit beras di lantai galeri. Mulai dari lilin yang dinyalakan di cawan gerabah; patung yang dibuat dengan dupa menyerupai sisa-sisa reruntuhan toko buku; lukisan yang dibuat dari gambar novel Wiro Anak Rimba Indonesia; serta pilar tengah galeri yang dilapisi kain goni dan tali serat alam berfungsi sebagai pusat, dari sana tiga patung digantung dan tiga batang kayu jati menyembul dari dalam tanah. Patung roh dari kemoceng bulu ayam dan topeng Petruk berusia 30 tahun; belati (keris) Indonesia yang dibungkus kain katun dan disambungkan ke sarang lebah; sosok kayu berkaki tiga dengan wajah topeng Petruk baru, berdiri di atas tiga pot gerabah berisi air mawar – di depan semua itu terdapat piring berisi dupa yang menyala.

Instalasi ini dirangkai untuk kondisi gelap, penerangan karya berasal dari bawah dan dari 12 lilin yang disebar.

Oleh karena jalur migrasi dari Indonesia ke Brasil telah memengaruhi/berdampak pada banyak lapisan subjektivitas keturunan Lie dan Ong. Karya ini merupakan sebuah proposisi estetika dalam bentuk non-verbal yang menavigasi perasaan tersebut.

A instalação Gaung / Reverb / Reverberação é uma instalação artística criada como resultado do processo de pesquisa e conversas para o desenvolvimento do projeto Toko Buku Liong durante 2019-2020. Cada elemento da obra reflete e ecoa um emaranhado de fatos, situações, identidades e memórias dos fundadores da Toko Buku Liong – os avós indonésios de Daniel Lie.

Todos os trabalhos apresentados são colocados e conectados por um caminho de casca de arroz no chão da galeria. De velas acesas em pratos de cerâmica; uma escultura feita com bastões de incenso que se assemelha às ruínas da livraria Toko Buku Liong; uma pintura feita a partir de imagens da história em quadrinho Wiro Anak Rimba Indonesia; um pilar central da galeria coberto com tecido de juta e envolto em cordas de fibra natural funcionando como centro, e dele três esculturas estão penduradas e três troncos de madeira jati emergem do chão. Uma escultura fantasmagórica feita com espanador de penas de galinha e uma máscara de 30 anos de Petruk; uma adaga indonésia (keris) envolta em tecido de algodão e conectada a uma colmeia; uma figura de madeira de três pernas com o rosto de uma máscara nova de Petruk em pé sobre três potes de cerâmica que contém água de rosas – na frente de tudo, um prato com incenso aceso.

A instalação foi pensada para o escuro, a iluminação da obra vem por baixo e das 12 velas espalhadas.

Como o caminho da migração da Indonésia para o Brasil influenciou/impactou em muitas camadas as subjetividades dos descendentes de Ong e Lie. A obra é uma proposição estética de forma não verbal que navega por esses sentimentos.
